Saaya Music Review

Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi - Literally !! Because when you hear to the music of Saaya you are taken back to the golden melodies of PTKYA that Anu Malik composed for this Rahul Roy, Pooja Bhatt and Pooja Bedi starrer about a decade back. Saaya, a paranormal flick directed by Anurag Basu (who partially directed Tusshar starrer 'Kucch To Hai') and produced by Mukesh Bhatt carries a catchline 'Can true love bring back the dead' - hence conveying the feel of the flick !! Saaya is about a couple played by John Abraham(Jism) and Tara Sharma (Liril ad, Om Jai Jagadish). Saaya is about how John copes with the tragedy of having lost his lady love Tara who is no more now !! Saaya is about how miracle happens when John starts seeing Tara who returns from the dead !! Lyrics are by Sayeed Quadri who is excellent in each of the tracks as he conveys pain and anguish of the lead couple. He should be the lyricist to look forward to !!

Opening track 'O Saathiya' really takes you through a journey of two loving hearts. A beautiful number that is sung so very well by Udit Narayan and especially Alka Yagnik who gives right pauses at right intervals, it is the only track composed by MM Kreem (Criminal, Sur, Jism) who does a very good job here !! 'O Saathiya' reappears in a full fledged version as 'Aayi Jo teri Yaad'. Sonu Nigam gives his 'now-so-common' quivering effect vocal effect to this number and atempts at being heart-broken. Last year's Filmfare award winner Shreya Goshal also sings a sad version of the same song and does it well. Fresh and easy to ears voice of hers is a pleasure to hear to !!

"Kabhi Khushboo" is a sad song in which the main lead can see and hear his beloved (who is no more) everywhere. KK pitches his voice from low to high remarkably (as he did so excellently in Tadap Tadap -HDDCS). An excellent composition, it is a bit long but you actually enjoy it throughout.

'Seena Pada' starts with a whistle (most probably Anu Malik's whistle itself) and the guitar and sexaphone that follow make a good startup to the song. Udit Narayan applies his heart in this track which is again about this guy who is forced to live even after losing his love. The same feelings are conveyed by the female protagonist in the vocals of Shreya Goshal as a separate solo. She too is good in this track.

A particular theme music (as Church bells and through various other instruments) is pretty catchy and played in 'Ae Meri Zindagi' and most of the other songs of Saaya. 'Ae Meri Zindagi' by Udit Narayan is a romantic track with extremely good and simple lyrics. A very pleasant composition, it comes naturally on you lips. He also sings a sad version of the same song. Shreya Goshal gets to sing a solo of the same number and it is indeed amazing to see her vocals growing much more mature than her 'Dola Re Dola' (Devdas) days !!

'Har Taraf Har Jagah' is a bhajan which has been literally composed very differently from the conventional bhajans. Okay, so you may not be singing it ion the first hearing itself but just observe the lyrics and KK's rendering and you will admire the way it has been packaged.

Happy days are here again for Anu Malik as this should be a third in a row for Anu Malik after Ishq Vishq and Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon. This may not be as big a commercial success as the other two due to it's classy approach but it will surely fetch him some well deserved critical acclaim !!

An album for the lovers of good quality subtle music !!
